Allergy Sense for Families brought to you by a passionate team: an allergy specialist, a paediatric dietician, and an occupational therapist who collaborate in developing a practical way to guide you, sorting the noise from the science and helping your family thrive. Includes over 70 delicious foolproof recipes using simple and inspiring ingredient combinations with minimal equipment and quick preparation times.

‘The focus of this book is not how to limit your life due to a food allergy, rather it will help you learn how to live your life to the full. An excellent guide, immensely beneficial for all those living with food allergies.’

– Prof Michael Levin, Head of Division Paediatric Allergology, Red Cross Children’s Hospital

Meg Faure is an occupational therapist with a special interest in babies and toddlers – specifically irritable infants, sleep problems, emotional engagement difficulties and fussy feeding. Passionate about assisting parents to nurture their babies she has a clinical practice in Cape Town, writes for various media platforms, is an international speaker and has co-authored five books, including Baby Sense, Sleep Sense, Feeding Sense, The Baby Sense Secret and Pregnancy Sense (Metz Press). Always seeking practical solutions for parenting, Meg founded the Baby Sense product brand, which she sold in 2014. In 2016 she launched a toddler playgroup solution called Play Sense.

Kath Megaw has been in child nutrition for 20 years. She is South Africa’s leading paediatric dietician and holds four medical qualifications including a paediatric dietetic qualification from the prestigious John Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. She has been published in the Epilepsia journal on the use of the paediatric ketogenic diet in third-world settings and frequently speaks to groups of both professionals and parents on infant and childhood nutrition. For over a decade Kath has advocated a high fat, low carb diet for all children, not just those with medical problems. Kath believes it is in no way dangerous for children to stop eating sugar and “white foods”. It is her professional opinion that this is the best route for all families to go. However, Kath is wise enough to know that a strictly restrictive diet is neither practical nor advisable for children. She recommends a move to healthy, natural food shared in a loving family environment. It’s not about what’s “allowed”, it’s about what’s healthy.

Dr Sarah Karabus is one of the few sub-specialist paediatric allergologists in South Africa and obtained her qualifications in South Africa and the United Kingdom. She is an associate of the Chest and Allergy Centre in Cape Town. Sarah maintains her links with her alma mater, the University of Cape Town, with a post as consultant and lecturer in the Allergy Division at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, where she has worked since 2003. Her articles are published in several medical journals, she frequently speaks at national and international conferences, is on the editorial board of local and international allergy journals and is a co-author of the textbook Allergy Society of South Africa Handbook of Practical Allergy. Sarah is an active board member of the Allergy Society of South Africa and is a founding board member of the Allergy Foundation of South Africa. www.chestandallergy.co.za
